BEETHOVEN - Triple Concerto
Alice Hallstrom, violin
Aristides Rivas, cello
Jenny Tang, piano
DVORAK - Symphony No. 8
Our musicians pull out all the stops in this season finale as they are prominently featured in Beethoven’s grand Triple Concerto, while the winds, brass, and strings will dazzle us in Dvorak’s Eighth. Also performing will be the winner of Indian Hill Music School’s 2015 Student Concerto Competition.
“Music is a higher revelation than all wisdom and philosophy. Music is the electrical soil in which the spirit lives, thinks, and invents.” ― Ludwig van Beethoven
Notes from Maestro Hangen: The appearance by the winner of the Music School’s Concerto Competition will be just one of several ways we are showcasing our own musicians in this concert. The guest artists for the Triple Concerto by Beethoven are our own Concertmaster, Alice Hallstrom; our own Principal Cellist, Aristides Rivas; and Music School faculty pianist Jenny Tang. This is an extraordinary work by Beethoven, and we know our own musicians will play it fabulously well. Concluding the concert, and the season overall, is the really tuneful and exciting Eighth Symphony by Antonin Dvorak. From the opening trumpet fanfares and the cello section tune to the featured concertmaster solo in the slow movement, this symphony veins the entire orchestra together. A great way to send orchestra musicians, audience members, and all Indian Hill families into the Spring!
