The flute is front and center as we welcome the amazing Jim Walker, “Renaissance Man of the flute,” as special guest artist for our weekend Flute Festival. Former Principal Flute of both the Pittsburgh and Los Angeles Philharmonics, Walker effortlessly spans the worlds of classical, jazz, and pop, and will offer pieces in all of these styles.
"Always listen for the beauty in your sound, the excitement in your rhythmic sense, and the emotional fulfillment in playing a singing phrase." — Jim Walker
Notes from Maestro Hangen: This concert focuses around the varied talents and experiences of guest artist Jim Walker, who is coming to Littleton both as soloist with the Orchestra and also as a focal point for an entire Flute Festival at Indian Hill Music School! The days around the concert will be filled with activities for flutists of all levels and those interested in flute. This afternoon he’ll be performing one of the great 20th century flute concertos by the Danish composer Karl Nielsen. A selection of lighter, even jazzier works will conclude the concert overall, including transcriptions by J. S. Bach and Jim’s ownBlackie & Max. In between will be a combination of works by Stravinsky and Debussy - a total contrast from the other works by the same composers earlier in the season.
